Some house show hosts will have to take a percentage of the door cut to cover their costs, but in most situations, it’s the performing artist who ends up with the lion’s share. Playing a big ol’ fancy venue might be an impressive thing for a burgeoning band to brag about, but with all the staff and overhead costs, the bands won’t earn any money unless they’re able to fill it. At a house show, you’re not expected to bring in hundreds — you can even make the gig free to attract more people and ask for donations.
The Space Echo is a tape delay pedal with a spring reverb plate built into it. Roland had made other tape delay machines before the RE-201, but adding the reverb plate colored the sound in a unique way. The way it combined both effects was fairly unique at the time, and artistically done, but now that’s fairly common across different guitar pedals, plugins, and outboard delay boxes.

Next up, it’s the lowdown on all 40 songs, ordered by weeks at #1, then on down to weeks in the Top 5 in descending order. So we start with the king of 2018.
Let’s take it back a notch. You don’t have to memorize every single note on every string in every fret; that’s because of how the guitar is tuned and organized. We know that if we play open strings on the guitar, we will get the following notes:
At a time where we have access to all this music, the experience should be amazing. Genres play a big part in that. Identifying what genre each individual song belongs to helps us identify songs with a similar “vibe.” Today, classification of songs is still a manual process. With 20,000 new songs being added to streaming services every day, it’s a very big problem that’s only getting bigger.
Sure, watching your play count and “likes” totals go up feels good, but how do you analyze how and why they went up so you can create meaningful progress?
So, as much as I love the concept and the cute album covers, I came, I tried, and I left these doggy playlists behind. It’s back to The Gaslight Anthem on repeat for us.

“Chameleonic, hypnotizing, and utterly irreplaceable, David Bowie was more than just a pop star. More underdog than diamond dog, he was an inspiration to millions: a hot tramp from the streets of London, who proved that anything’s possible when you follow your dreams.”
Booking bigger shows requires more work than simply showing up and playing your songs. You need to think entrepreneurially about your career and how you can grow your band like it’s a small business. Challenge yourself to book a bigger venue for your next record release show or other milestone for your band. But don’t get discouraged if things don’t immediately work out. It may take time, but in the end you’ll be happy you put in the extra effort.
We took inspiration from the concept of crowdfunding indeed. We realized that, in many ways, the best way to help artists fund their projects was to call out their community. Today, fans like to get involved in the music they love, and they want to actively support artists. Musical projects count for 10 to 20% of all crowdfunding projects in France. In the United States, 20% of the Kickstarter projects that reach their objective are musical projects.
This vinyl-related project couldn’t be more different from the one above. Until recently, Jesu Berkeley was just a talented dad. Now, he’s an educator and community activist with a dream to provide a creative space for students and at-risk youth to learn about DJing, turntablism, and scratchology!
Absolutely. We didn’t have a blueprint on how to build any of our tech, so there was a lot of trial and error. We were an incredibly lean team for the first three years as we experimented, tested, and iterated our tech to a point that we could prove that our algorithms worked! There were plenty of sleepless nights and countless hours of staring at spreadsheets before we got our classification right. We aren’t done yet either, but most importantly, we have proven that the technology works and, now, we are taking the A.I. to the next level.
